Read Better Be Better of Phoenix, AZ is looking to hire part-time After-School Literacy Site Leaders to administer our nonprofit program a few hours a week at a school site near you.

We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit after-school organization focused on solving Arizona's literacy crisis with youth leaders. We inspire and equip middle school youth leaders to help third-grade students struggling with reading comprehension. The program uses trained 6th-8th graders to lead 3rd graders through a curriculum that empowers both students. Third graders gain the literacy skills needed to achieve academic and life-long success, and middle schoolers engage in service-learning and leadership.

On average, participating third-grade students score 20% or higher on reading comprehension standardized assessment tests than their nonparticipating peers. And, surveyed teachers reported that 100% of their participating students improved in reading comprehension, increased focus, and improved concentration. We not only serve two student groups at the same time but also provide future teachers with unparalleled classroom experience.

As an After-School Literacy Site Leader, you play a crucial role in the effective implementation and management of our student tutoring program on school grounds. Prior to your placement at a program site, you will attend training to learn the program. You are responsible for ensuring adherence to the curriculum and maintaining a positive and safe learning environment for students. Enthusiastically, you encourage and motivate students to get the most out of this unique student-to-student tutoring program. Under your leadership, the classroom is well-managed and learning flourishes. You encourage student participation and ensure that all procedures are being followed according to the program structure. Under your training and guidance, Reading Leaders excel in their tutoring activities.

You effectively communicate program successes and challenges to your supervision. You also attend weekly offsite district team meetings and monthly professional development opportunities.
